Copyright Laws

No states are authorized to pass laws relating to copyrights. This is strictly an area for federal oversight.

Patent Laws

Many states have established their own set of patent laws that may be useful for inventors to know. There have been many successful patent litigation suits within state court venues. The following are states with patent specific legislation are listed with links to the laws:

Trade Secret Laws

The Uniform Trade Secrets Act (UTSA) has been adopted by 46 states, the District of Columbia and the US Virgin Islands. This legislation protects and defends trade secrets under the civil law system. The only four states not to adopt the UTSA are Texas, New York, Massachusetts and New Jersey.
